From starting in the Tyne & Wear Traffic Signals Team on 1 April 1980 Ian has now completed 30 years working in the industry. Following abolition of Tyne & Wear County Council Ian and his team moved to Newcastle City Council. In 1989 Ian moved to TPA that then became Oscar Faber TPA which is now AECOM. In 1997 Ian founded IRC which continues to provide expert services in the UK and around the world.
